Attendees at the 2014 Design In Wood show at the Del Mar Fair admire the handiwork of many craftsmen and women.
If you haven’t been to the Del Mar Fair Design in Wood show this year, put it on the calendar for 2015. The show is attended by thousands and for some people, it's the only reason to brave the crowds and craziness of the fair.
The variety of woodworking displayed, as well as the level of craftsmanship is impressive. From wooden kayaks, to exquisitely carved animals, to modern furniture, the pieces in the Design in Wood exhibit will dazzle your senses. In addition there are live demonstrations of chair making, model shipbuilding and toy making.
Roberto has had pieces in the show for the last 5 years and finds it is a great way for people who otherwise would not find him through MZ3D to see his work.
This year, one of his pieces has gotten a lot of attention — it is best decribed as an ottoman, but it can also serve as a coffee table and a storage area. Half of a wine barrel with a handsome and comfy leather cushion on top is the basis for this design.
Many people have asked, “Does it rock?” This question has given us all kinds of ideas for the next iteration... stay tuned. No, it doesn't move, but we think it really 'rocks!'
Visit Design in Wood and look for the pieces made by Roberto Mendez! Lastly, don't forget to vote for your favorite piece at the show.
